𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐃𝐚𝐲: 𝐀 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐟𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 Our inaugural Digital Literacy Day transformed the classes into a buzzing hub of critical thinking and collaboration, as students from Years 5 through 10 stepped away from passive screen time and into the role of active digital citizens. For our Primary students in Years 5 and 6, the day began with an empowering rotation through hands-on activity stations. In the 'Password Power Lab,' they discovered the art of crafting unbreakable passphrases, learning that a simple pet’s name is no match for a robust string of characters. Moving to the 'Fake or Real? Media Smart Challenge,' these young detectives sharpened their eyes, scrutinizing headlines and images to separate fact from fiction, while the 'Think Before You Share' station fostered deep discussions on digital empathy and the lasting impact of our online footprints. Watching these students collaborate and solve puzzles within their year groups shows their growing awareness that navigating the internet requires just as much savvy as using it for games or research. As the morning progressed, the energy and complexity escalated for our Secondary students in Years 7 through 10, who tackled the more advanced challenges waiting for them. Rotating within their groups, they stepped into the shoes of cybersecurity experts at the 'Emoji Code Encryption' station, where they used symbols to encode and decode messages, understanding the fundamentals of how data is protected. However, the highlight of their journey was undoubtedly the 'Deepfake Detectives' station, a crucial exercise in an age where seeing is no longer believing. Here, students analysed clips with a forensic eye, learning to spot subtle glitches and inconsistencies that betray AI-manipulated content. Our group of Secondary students arrived at Shanghai airport early Wednesday morning. They had a long journey from Johor to Kuala Lumpur International Airport, then about a five hour flight to Shanghai. After checking into the hotel, it was an interesting visit to Chenhuang Temple (City God Temple) which was built in 1403 during the Ming Dynasty. The students also strolled around the area admiring the traditional southern-style architecture. Our Year 6 students became young scientists as they explored the exciting world of chemical reactions through the famous ‘Elephant Toothpaste’ experiment. Earlier in the year, the Science department conducted a demonstration of the experiment to Primary learners. This time, the Year 6s got to experiment it themselves! Students worked in groups to mix different substances and then they observed what happened when a chemical reaction took place. The highlight of the session was watching colourful foam rapidly burst out of the containers, creating a giant toothpaste effect that amazed everyone. Beyond the fun and excitement, students learned how chemical reactions can produce new substances and release energy. They compared the results of different mixtures, discussed their observations, and practised making scientific predictions. It was wonderful to see so much curiosity, teamwork, and enthusiasm as students investigated science through hands-on learning. She delivered an outstanding performance, winning a total of nine medals and breaking one National Record! Our Early Years children had a wonderful time creating their own undersea craft using sponges that were precut into sea creature shapes. They explored different textures, colours, and patterns and used the sponges to create different designs to complete the scene. Alice: A Wonderland Musical marks a milestone for Invictus International School Horizon Hills, representing the culmination of a journey that began with June 2025 auditions and intensive rehearsals since September. We started our learning journey in the Library, exploring a range of non-fiction books and discovered how these books provide us with facts and information about different topics. We then looked at the features of information texts and completed a fun cut-and-paste activity to identify headings, subheadings, photographs, captions, labels, and fact boxes. This hands-on activity helped us recognise how information is organised and presented to readers. Then, we chose a non-fiction book and created three questions based on what we wanted to find out. Using laptops, we enjoyed being researchers and recorded our findings. Then in Science, we have been learning about rocks. We read the story ‘Scribble Stones’ by Diane Alber, about kindness and friendship. We then decorated our own rocks, adding colourful designs, characters, and patterns. Our Year 3 to Year 6 Primary students gathered in the Training Room for an exciting Learning Journey information session, where they received key details about their upcoming trip. During the session, they learned about the activities they would take part in, the groups they would be assigned to, and the essential items to bring on the day. Our happy learners were visibly excited, as they had been eagerly waiting for this trip to celebrate the end of their final examinations for the year. We were delighted to welcome a delegation of about 20 teachers, principals, and directors from the Gangwon State Office of Education, Board of Education in Chuncheon, South Korea. Their visit to our school was driven by a keen interest in exploring diverse international school environments. Reflecting the rich multicultural tapestry of our community, approximately 20% of Invictus students are Korean, 40% are Malaysian, and the remaining 40% represent about 35 other nationalities including Singapore, China, India, South Africa, Russia, Australia and New Zealand, offering our guests a meaningful glimpse into an inclusive, globally minded setting.
