English as an Additional Language (EAL) Programme

English as an Additional Language

We support our EAL students with their English Language journey to prepare them for access to the mainstream and academic success.

All students are assessed on the CAT4 test. If the test identifies low language proficiency, they will sit a specialised English Proficiency assessment. The level identified, based on The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) which describes language ability. It provides a scale of proficiency, ranging from A1 for beginners to C2 for those who have mastered a language.

Based on this, we shall provide English Language Support for 9 periods a week, 5 periods a week or in class support at the point of transition.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

We celebrate the uniqueness of every individual and recognise that some students may have additional learning needs. Our support follows a graduated response approach used to assess, plan, implement, and review support for children and young people with SEND. This approach recognises that SEND is a spectrum, and support should be tailored to the individual needs of the student.
